Possible answer to: Why are depot injections available for antipsychotics but not for other groups of drugs such as anticonvulsants or antihypertensives?

Arguably, such prescriptions are formulated because some psychiatric patients are not trusted to take their medication as prescribed. Readers may care to think more about the moral and ethical issues at stake, and how these play into concerns about trust, choice and therapeutic relationships. On average, non-compliance with prescribed medication is not different across all health conditions – about 50% of people do not take medication exactly as it is prescribed, whether they are diagnosed with a physical health or mental health condition. This would seem to make a case that mental health patients ought not to be singled out for depot medication.
