- United States Department of Justice, ADA homepage: Provides the text of the Americans with Disabilities Act, publications, resources, and research about legislation impacting on persons with disabilities.
- United States Medicare Dept: The official government website in regard to Medicare; contains information designed to help potential and actual Medicare recipient utilize and understand the services offered by this program.
- World Health Organization (WHO): Official website for a division of the United Nations, which addresses health care issues and health care policies worldwide.

- Addiction Treatment Forum: Contains scientific articles of a progressive nature on addiction-related research.
- Downtown Emergency Services Center (DESC): Contains the latest research information concerning housing programs that follow a harm-reduction model to house chronically homeless persons with severe mental disorders.
- National Alliance to End Homelessness. Contains research and data on homelessness in the U.S.
- National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): An advocacy organization for persons with mental illness and their families. This is an excellent educational resource on the various mental disorders and for policy issues related to treatment needs.
- National Coalition for the Homeless: This not-for-profit organization provides policy information, research, and advocacy on homelessness.
- National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA): This website is the government resource for the latest scientific research on alcohol abuse and alcoholism.
- Screening, Brief Intervention Referral and Treatment (SBIRT): This screening and intervention website is recommended by CSWE for students of social work. Motivational interviewing skills are described here.
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This website contains extensive information on virtually every topic of contemporary interest in substance-abuse treatment.
- Trauma Informed Care in Behavioral Health Services: This website provides specific information on trauma-informed care.

- AARP: An advocacy group for older Americans that lobbies to protect the benefits that they get.
- National Council on Aging: Provides information on a wide range of topics relating to health, caregiving, and the Older Americans Act.
- Nursing Home Quality Initiative Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services: provides information on nursing home standards of care.
- Raging Grannies: An activist group that pokes fun at social institutions that are considered harmful to citizens while advocating for peace and social justice.
- Social Security Administration: The official site for the SSA; provides information about SS, SSD, and SSI in addition to other benefits.

- American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU): The official site for the American Civil Liberties Union provides information, research, and advocacy in regard to many social welfare policies.
- Amnesty International national reports: Lists human rights violations country by country and discusses human rights advances across the globe.
- Creating a Human Rights Culture: This website created by Dr. Joseph Wronka contains relevant human rights documents and a great deal of human rights information.
- FindLaw: Provides a search engine for and links to federal and state laws and cases.
- Social Care Online: The UK’s largest database of information and research on all aspects of social care and social work.
- Human Rights Watch: This organization investigates human rights abuses worldwide and gives special attention to violations in prison systems.
- United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF): This organization does amazing work--for example, in war zones--to protect the lives of children.
- United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Passed in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the first legally binding international instrument to incorporate the full range of human rights—including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.
- UN Women: This is the United Nations organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
- UN Universal Declaration on Human Rights. The United Nations set a common standard on human rights with the adoption of this declaration in 1948.
- Violence Policy Center: An advocacy group for gun control; provides information on homicide cases involving handguns.

- Center for Law and Social Policy: The official site for a national not-for-profit organization that provides policy analysis and information on numerous social welfare policies.
- Influencing State Policy: A great advocacy resource with instructions on how social work organizations can influence legislation on topics of interest to social workers and their clients.
- Restorative Justice: Contains a wealth of resources on restorative strategies and initiatives.
- Social Welfare Action Alliance (SWAA): Through national meetings and alliances with regional organizations to end poverty and homelessness, radical advocacy group SWAA uses the UN Declaration of Human Rights to advocate for the rights of poor people.
