  • American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU): The official site for the American Civil Liberties Union provides information, research, and advocacy in regard to many social welfare policies.
  • Amnesty International national reports: Lists human rights violations country by country and discusses human rights advances across the globe.
  • Creating a Human Rights Culture: This website created by Dr. Joseph Wronka contains relevant human rights documents and a great deal of human rights information.
  • FindLaw: Provides a search engine for and links to federal and state laws and cases.
  • Social Care Online: The UK’s largest database of information and research on all aspects of social care and social work.
  • Human Rights Watch: This organization investigates human rights abuses worldwide and gives special attention to violations in prison systems.
  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF): This organization does amazing work--for example, in war zones--to protect the lives of children.
  • United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Passed in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is the first legally binding international instrument to incorporate the full range of human rights—including civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights.
  • UN Women: This is the United Nations organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.
  • UN Universal Declaration on Human Rights. The United Nations set a common standard on human rights with the adoption of this declaration in 1948.  
  • Violence Policy Center:  An advocacy group for gun control; provides  information on homicide cases involving handguns.

  • Influencing State Policy: A great advocacy resource with instructions on how social work organizations can influence legislation on topics of interest to social workers and their clients.
  • Restorative Justice: Contains a wealth of resources on restorative strategies and initiatives.
  • Social Welfare Action Alliance (SWAA): Through national meetings and alliances with regional organizations to end poverty and homelessness, radical advocacy group SWAA uses the UN Declaration of Human Rights to advocate for the rights of poor people.
