Video and Audio

A range of specialised video and audio materials exist that form another strand to your research as a student, and such materials can also be used within assignments as per any other source. It is of course important to ensure that the material is authoritative and reliable. Among the most useful, where there is a comprehensive range of items exploring crime and justice issues, as well as research methods, is the SAGE Knowledge collection at https://sk.sagepub.com/video/criminology-criminal-justice, and a number of these are given within the book chapters as follow-up materials. You may need to log-in to this via your university or college library network to access the videos.

Another great source is the TED Talks database at https://www.ted.com/talks, a simple search on the site using terms such as ‘crime’ will bring to you a large number of short presentations by academics and professionals exploring specific aspects of crime and justice. Of course, a series of crime and justice focused programmes are available through the BBC, Channel 5 and Channel 4 through their iPlayer apps and websites, and within their regular TV scheduling. Plus, there are a range of documentary-focused TV stations via satellite/cable TV, which focus on law and order issues. Such factual programmes can cover both pressing crimes and justice issues of the day, such as knife crime and sexual exploitation, as well as historic and well-known cases involving serial killers for instance. David Wilson’s work on the latter issue, for example, is notable.
