Video focused on social change through social entrepreneurship. It first focuses on Muhammad Yunus initiation of microfinancing in Bangladesh and talks about how social entrepreneurship has led to social movements that have significantly improved people’s lives. The essential message is that the ability to lead change in society is broadly based.

Toby Eccles: Invest in social change - 10:03
Here's a stat worth knowing: In the UK, 63% of men who finish short-term prison sentences are back inside within a year for another crime. Helping them stay outside involves job training, classes, therapy. And it would pay off handsomely — but the government can't find the funds. Toby Eccles shares an imaginative idea for how to change that: the Social Impact Bond. It's an unusual bond that helps fund initiatives with a social goal through private money — with the government paying back the investors (with interest) if the initiatives work.

Emily Pilloton: Teaching design for change -16:43

Teaching Design for Change – Emily Pilloton – 16.44 minutes
This TED talk focuses on bringing design and public education together to bring about community engagement (beginning with the teachers and students) and change in rural communities. As such, it shows how structural (systems level) and process changes can be deployed to bring about community change in disadvantaged areas.

Transforming Giants – 9:30 minutes
HBR interview of Rosebeth Moss Kanter on how corporate giants like IBM, Nokia, Banco Real etc transform themselves to become more agile, nimble and responsive to local conditions. Issues related to the purpose and values of the organization lie at the center of developing flexibility, adaptiveness, and employee engagement.

Interesting short video showing leadership, early adopters and emergent behavior. Demonstrates the importance of how the process begins, the critical importance of early adopters with the courage to follow, and what happens once the tipping point. 

News Report on The Zappos Co – a high commitment workplace – 9:16 minutes
Interesting story reported on Nightline, of a high commitment work culture in a call center and distribution environment.  Could be used to set the scene for the call center case (Travelink Solutions) contained in the book. It started with a high commitment culture which then was seriously damaged through subsequent management decisions.

How we look at the world has a large impact on the world you will create for yourself. Expectations influence perception, actions and the interpretation of reactions. Change at the individual level essentially starts with how we look at and interpret the world and our ability to impact on it.

Ken Blanchard - Change Strategy and Recipients of Change – 2:09 minutes
 “Ken talks about the reality of change in an organization, and why information-sharing, personal concerns, and implementation are the top issues people have when change comes up in their company.” He makes a useful point that the tendency by managers to first point out the benefits of a proposed change is not useful if they haven’t addressed the three major concerns above that most recipients of change have. 

David Letterman Visit to GE After They Bought the Network – 5:35 minutes
Classic video of Letterman’s visit to GE headquarters in an attempt to meet his new bosses and deliver a fruit basket. Can be used to comical introduction to recipients of change, including how our actions influence the reactions of others.

Change is Everybody's Business – 4:20 minutes
Publisher Berrett-Koehler’s Change Authors Series - Investigates choices people make concerning change and how they respond: people can follow and implement; can try to influence change; or can reject the change. As a result, people have a lot of power concerning change. It focuses on helping people understand the beliefs they have about change and understand them, take charge of yourself and use change as an opportunity to develop themselves, and there are actions and skills that will make them more powerful players within the process.  BK Business Book by Pat McLagan.

Three Myths of Behavior Change - What You Think You Know That You Don't: Jeni Cross at TEDxCSU - 18:31
In this excellent video, Jeni Cross argues that our common sense about change is the greatest impediment to change. How to frame information (e.g., loss vs gain), make it tangible, personal (know your audience) and anchored in social interaction significantly increases willingness to change and follow through on it. Changing behaviors to change attitudes, setting behavioral expectations to create follow through, and connecting with values and social norms that are visible and congruent with the desired changes really help.  

Uncovering Motivation and Overcoming Ambivalence - 4:01
Margaret Moore talks about how to deal with ambivalence that is keeping people from acting and help them become motivated to move in the desired direction.

The Big Bang Theory - Sheldon hates change - 1:34

Video shows a change management case involving a fictitious TV news crew.  As one viewer comments, it is a bit cheesy, but because of that it might be thought provoking.  

Self-managing Teams - 8:10 minutes
Focuses on team formation and development, including the role of external leaders in helping the mature self managed team perform at a high level. Since change initiatives may involve self managed team playing important roles in the development of the change, this video may assist in provoking discussion concerning how to develop them.

The world's greatest speech - Charlie Chaplin - 4:38
A clip from a Charlie Chaplin movie, filmed in opposition to Hitler and dictatorship. He is costumed as Hitler but as the speech unfolds, it is an impassioned plea for individuals to take actions that will create a much more positive future.

Very visual explanation of force field analysis - uses a simple example to show its application.

How to Leverage Social Media as a Change Agent - 10:00 minutes
HBR interview with Josh Bernoff, co-author of Groundswell, on how companies can change to embrace social media. Since this is often threatening to executives, start small, find a champion, line up other stakeholders, build coalitions, move quickly, learn from others (including other firms), and help people have a sense of what is coming, and measure your success. This video and the subsequent clips outlining the five objectives of Groundswell are focused on customers and sales/marketing related issues. However, the approach has relevance to organizational change when you consider how organizational change leaders could use the strategies to engage their “customers” in the development and delivery of organizational change.

It starts with one: Changing Individuals Changes Organisations – 26.25 minutes
Two professors from INSEAD (Hal Gregerson and Stewart Black) discuss the idea that you can’t change organizations if you don’t focus on change with the individuals first. Investigate three barriers: the failure to see, failure to move (developing the capacity of individuals to do something new) and failure to finish (following through with support until capacities are where they need to be – need champions at the front line as well as elsewhere in the organization as well as signposts that help people understand where they are in terms of implementing the change initiative). This includes helping leaders to understand the changes required within themselves.

The Big Bang Theory - The Friendship Algorithm - 2:27
This Big Bang clip shows Sheldon developing an algorithm to better make relationship decisions. The underlying purpose is to gain influence with his rival to obtain more access to needed technology.

Oceans 11 – Plan - 3:02
This clip features George Clooney initiating the development the project plans for how to successfully rob a very secure Las Vegas casino.

Inception Planning phase - 4:06
The clip from the above movie depicts individuals developing their plans to bring about a difficult change by getting to develop an emotional approach that will move a particular individual to action. Included in their plan is the development of signals that will realign the awareness of those involved implementing the strategy, to ensure they do not lose their way while pursuing the strategy.

TED talk by David McCandless, on the value of visualizing data in order to draw new meaning and insights from complex data in order to better design, innovate, make better decisions, etc.  Can be a useful video prior to discussing the development of information and metrics to help frame change, change views, and guide change initiatives.

Shawn Achor: The Happy Secret to Better Work – 12:21
Achor argues that happiness increases productivity.  That increasingly setting goals higher and higher makes us more unhappy and consequently more unproductive.

Dan Ariely: Are we in control of our own decisions? - 17:26
Behavioral economist Dan Ariely, the author of Predictably Irrational, uses classic visual illusions and his own counterintuitive (and sometimes shocking) research findings to show how we're not as rational as we think when we make decisions.

Julian Assange: Why the world needs WikiLeaks - 19:33
The controversial website WikiLeaks collects and posts highly classified documents and video. Founder Julian Assange, who's reportedly being sought for questioning by US authorities, talks to TED's Chris Anderson about how the site operates, what it has accomplished — and what drives him. The interview includes graphic footage of a recent US airstrike in Baghdad.
