Learning Objectives
By the end of this chapter, you should be able to
- understand the core relationship-building values that guide us in the engagement phase when working with individuals/families and small groups;
- build collaborative helping relationships that emphasize a strengths-based orientation, value diversity, and utilize an empowerment approach;
- identify skills to promote the likelihood that individuals, families, and small groups who could benefit from services seek the services they need and follow through with change efforts; and
- understand the Stages of Change Framework and identify the skills needed to implement this framework in social work practice to support readiness of individuals/ families and small groups in engaging in the change processes.
