Activity 11.5: Reflective practice

Consider your thoughts regarding the meaning of pain:

  • Do you believe pain should be ignored?
  • What does pain mean to you?

As no two people are the same the answer to this activity is a very personal one. Whatever your perspective regarding pain you should do what is right for you. But remember that pain is not normal and should be acted upon whenever experienced.

Many people regard pain as abnormal and a sign that something is wrong but there are some types of pain that just tell us that something different is happening and the body is changing/behaving differently, i.e. pains when giving birth.
