Activity 6.3: Reflective practice
Thinking about the different skills needed to implement EBP, can you identify the ones that you feel confident about, and those which will need more practice? Write yourself a brief plan to improve your skills. How can you get help? Who from? When will you be able to do this?
This will be individual to the student.
Find three different critical appraisal tools. Find one research paper in an area you are interested in. Is it quantitative, qualitative or mixed method research? Use the appraisal tools to assess the paper. Which one did you find easiest to use, and why?
The possible tools chosen are likely to be one of the following: Systematic Reviews, Randomised Controlled Trials, Cohort Studies, Case Control Studies, Economic Evaluations, Diagnostic Studies, Qualitative studies and Clinical Prediction Rule.
The use of one of these tools will depend on the research chosen by the student.
