Critical thinking stop point 3.3
How often have you seen poor care and said nothing? Why have you not raised concerns?
The reasons for staff not raising concerns are many and it is likely that as a student you have been concerned about the impact on your placement and your practice assessment or becoming known as a ‘trouble-maker’ in the organisation you are placed in. These were all issues identified by Francis in his report Freedom to Speak Up (2015) which has led to improvements in support to both students and staff in practice settings through the development of new roles such as Whistleblowing champions or Freedom to Speak Up Guardians.
