Before going on placement with children with neurological problems, you should read around the topics featured in Chapter 20 as widely as you can. The following will also provide you with a sound start:

• Learning to listen to CYP and their parents.
• A basic knowledge on a range of paediatric neurological conditions.
• A good knowledge of developmental milestones in infants and children.
• Practical skills for how to carry out neurological observations.
• First aid skills for how to manage a child or young person who is having a seizure.
