See if you can speak to a Clinical Nurse Specialist in paediatric endocrinology or diabetes, and find out when their clinics are. Ask the nurse in charge on the ward if you can shadow a nurse looking after a child with diabetes, or when a child is having growth hormone investigations. Read up on:

• How to measure blood glucose levels – there are many glucometers available, so find out which one is in use on your ward.
