41: Lee

Lee is an RN (Child) working in a general children’s ward in a district general hospital. Over time it has been becoming more and more evident that the ward is receiving an increasing number of children and young people with overt mental health issues such as self-harming and eating disorders. After some investigation, Lee is astonished to find that there is very little work going on locally on mental health promotion. At the same time Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the vicinity are being rationalised and reduced. Lee decides something must be done.

  • What would be the objectives of such a project and who would be the target audience?
  • What methods could be used to advance the objectives of this project?

The response might include policy development to support a strategic approach to develop mental health promotion services. This might include regional decision-makers, care commissioners, mental health and education services – these would then form the target audiences for lobbying following the format laid out in the content of the chapter.
