Activity 1: National Association of Social Workers--Advocacy

The National Association of Social Workers provides resources to help social workers advocate for the profession and specific issues.

  • Go to the Policy Issues link and read about any of the issues identified.
  • Go to the Legislative Alerts link and review the issues in the Take Action section. Write a letter or send an e-mail to your Representative or Senator.
  • Go to the Social Justice link and review the social justice issue briefs; contact your Representative or Senator about one of these issues.
  • If you don’t know who your Representatives or Senators are, use Find your elected officials under the Legislative Alerts link.

Activity 2: Center for Economic and Social Justice 

The Center for Economic and Social Justice (CESJ) is a nonprofit educational center, grassroots think tank, and social action catalyst. CESJ’s mission is to advance liberty and justice for every person through equal opportunity.

  • Review the Three Principles of Economic Justice. What is the difference between Participative Justice, Distributive Justice, and Social Justice?
  • In the Resources Tab, select Media Gallery, then Videos. Watch Income Distribution of the United States (“The L Curve”). What did you learn about the wealth gap in the United States?
  • In the About Tab, select History and Accomplishments. Describe two of the CESJ’s accomplishments and why they are important.
