Personal Rights
Personal Rights are different from copyright and should be assessed in addition to copyright. Personal rights involve protecting an individual's reputation and privacy while copyright involves protecting an individual's creative work.
When using content that portrays individuals (such as images or videos), you must also consider the personal rights of any individuals shown or discussed to ensure we have the right to discuss that individual or to display their likeness.

- Stock image sites generally have model releases for all photos, granting permission for the use. However, if you are using content not produced by Corwin, and/or taken from other sources, separate permission may be necessary to use or display individuals’ likenesses, such as images or videos taken of classrooms displaying students, instructors, and/or administrators.
- Permissions are particularly necessary for instances where minors are displayed.
- Interviews and presentations discussing other individuals or organizations may require careful review to ensure that they are not disclosing potentially sensitive or inaccurate information.
- If you determine that releases are necessary, Corwin will provide you with the appropriate forms to secure permission for likenesses and interviews.
