Abstract:

Ethical dilemmas occur frequently within the counseling profession.  Because ethical dilemmas are challenging, it is important for counselors to understand how the American Counseling Association’s (ACA) Code of Ethics can help guide their decision making.  This article uses case studies to help the reader gain an understanding of how informed decision can help protect the client.  Furthermore, it can help the counselor understand how to avoid ethical violations in the future.

Review the Case Studies and answer the following questions:

  1. What are the core ethical dilemmas?
  2. Is there a course of action that needs to be taken against the counselor?
  3. What ethical codes should the counselor become more familiar with?
