Learning Objectives
By the end of the Chapter 4, you should be able to:
- Communicate an understanding of the basic principles associated with tests and measurements (e.g. validity, reliability, and norms);
- Describe the basic issues associated with test administration and interpretation;
- Recognize issues associated with test bias;
- Differentiate between standardized and nonstandardized assessment procedures;
- Describe observation skills and behavioral assessment;
- Provide an overview of environmental/ecological assessment;
- Provide an overview of DSM-5;
- Provide a description of the clinical interview and mental status exam;
- Discuss treatment planning (including Lazarus’s BASIC ID and Seligman’s DO A CLIENT MAP models); and
- Discuss multicultural issues relating to diagnosing and treating mental disorders.
