After reading Chapter 6, you should be able to:
- Use the six-stage model to formulate their personal approach to counseling;
- Differentiate key concepts associated with multicultural counseling (such as diversity, worldview, and identity development);
- Incorporate multicultural considerations (such as the degree of acculturation) into their development and implementation of a personal counseling approach;
- Identify the stages associated with identity development;
- Evaluate counseling theory in terms of multicultural considerations;
- Identify issues associated with multicultural competencies;
- Communicate awareness to the wide array of diversity issues (such as culture, gender, age, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation);
- Describe the guidelines for counseling from a multicultural perspective; and
- Address the issues associated with test bias.
