Using this GIS Wiki, choose at least five (5) of the Basic Thematic Mapping Methods, review the definition and examples for each one you’ve selected and then using your preferred search engine, locate a crime map from any reliable source for any jurisdiction or crime study that shares the same type of thematic method, cite it and provide the link and explain the overall point of the map.  For instance, if you select a “Graduated Color Map”, review the definition and example provided on the GIS Wiki, then locate a graduated color crime map from a reliable source, cite that source, provide a link to the site and explain the overall meaning of the map you have selected.

View the video news segment and read the written article.  Leveraging the information from the text, assert how this program leverages what is known about repeat offenders to attempt to address and ultimately reduce, repeat offending.  Determine if application of what is known from research about repeat offenders is apparent in this program, giving specific examples that link the text to the program.

To develop conclusions about why a problem is occurring, the analyst must consider evidence about each of the components of the problem analysis triangle.  Additionally, the analyst must consider factors that may be facilitating the problem and may block crime prevention responses from working.  First review the POP Center’s article on “A Theory of Crime Problems”, followed by a review the Hotels/Motels project conducted summarized here: http://www.popcenter.org/library/awards/goldstein/2009/09-47(W).pdf.  Who are the offenders, targets/victims, handlers, managers, guardians and what is the place?  What crime(s) are occurring?  Where is the PA Triangle found in this research?
