Chapter objectives:

• To give a basic introduction to the statistical methods for analyzing health data, including the factors that govern the choice of appropriate methods
• To provide an understanding of basic statistical analysis and presentation of descriptive statistics, including graphs, tables, and numerical measures of central tendency and dispersion
• To describe measures of association and correlation and the logic of inferential statistics through hypothesis testing and the use of confidence intervals
• To illustrate the application of this knowledge to a given data set
