This site has an excellent and extensive range of ideas about methods of assessing learning outside the classroom, they are not just applicable for geoscience either! Reflect on which methods are most likely to meet the criteria of ‘assessment as learning’ by involving children in assessing their own learning. 

You might like to consider the learning stories used in TeWhariki early years practice and how these might be adapted throughout the age range by creating dialogues and shifting increasing responsibility for self-evaluation and metacognitive awareness as the children go through the school.
