Chapter 24 on Secondary data analysis provides an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of using numerical secondary data sources and introduces possible sources of data.

Heaton, J. (2004). Reworking qualitative data. London: Sage.
This extract provides an introduction to using non-numerical secondary data in social research. It is structured around three themes: a general overview of the analysis of pre-existing data in social research, followed by a discussion of the functions and the modes of secondary analysis.
