Applied Helping Skills
Second Edition
Chapter Summary
In this chapter, we introduced some ideas about insight and whether it is necessary and/or sufficient for effective therapy. Some skills and techniques were presented to facilitate insight, although they can be used during any part of the therapeutic process. The skills included confrontation, disputing, interpreting, providing information, giving feedback, silence, and self-disclosure. The next chapter continues with more skills, ones that are more often used to facilitate the action phase of therapy.
