Photographs are one documentary form of data that are perhaps underutilised in qualitative health research. One challenge for researchers is how to analyse these forms of data. A good introduction to forms of analysis that we have not discussed in the book is Carole Grbich’s discussion of structural and post-structural analysis, which takes a photograph as her example.  The example is not from health research, but the principles she works through are generalizable:
