1. Why do some organizations believe that they can manage performance better by getting rid of PMS?

Ans: It is true that we hear quite often that well known organization is getting rid of his PMS because it is not working. However, it is our contention that getting rid of the PMS is not the solution since they would need to replace it with another system. Often the problem is that the organization has not created an appropriate environment for PMS to succeed.

2. Why is rater training important for the success of a PMS?

Ans: Like any organizational system a PMS has many critical integral system. In order to successfully navigate the system, the users must be trained so that they understand the philosophy behind the system and the mechanics of operating the system. Like any other system PMS would fail when being operated by untrained individuals.

3. Why is organizational culture an important determinant of the success or failure of PMS?

Ans: One of the main ingredients of a successful organization culture is trust. In order for PMS to succeed subordinate must trust their supervisors and believe that the supervisors will be fair and just in their evaluation of the subordinate performance. If the subordinate do not trust their supervisors even the most advanced and technologically sound PMS will fail.
