2. What are the key components of PMS?

Ans: PMS covers the whole gamut of activities related to an individual’s performance. Thus, a well-design PMS will include goal setting, feedback, coaching counselling, performance evaluation, and motivation.

3. What is alignment? How important is it for effective implementation of PMSs?

Ans: In order for an individual to effectively perform his/her duties, his/her job content should be aligned with the organizations strategic objectives. In other words in designing the jobs to be done an organization must ensure that individual jobs are designed to help support strategy. Thus, for example if an organizations strategy is geared towards garnering repeat customers, employees must be rewarded for customer service which is designed to keep the customers coming back. If, instead, employees are rewarded for how little time they spent with each customer this could lead to customer dissatisfaction. As can be seen the alignment of individuals’ job with the organizations strategic objective is critical.
