Read section 34.2 and take out your smartphone. Access Google Maps, or a similar Mapping App and zoom in to a city of your choice. Find a conventionally published paper copy map of a similar area.

Compare and contrast these two different technologies. For each come up with a list of positive and negative things that might be associated with the function, aesthetics, politics, production, ethics and artefactual qualities of the two different mappings of the same place.

How do the two different maps make you feel about that city? How has technological change altered the status of the map?
