Scottish Government and the Office for National Statistics (ONS) continue to produce analysis of social and economic trends, making excellent use of Census data. See for example, Low Pay and Economic Inequality in Scotland (http://www.gov.scot/Resource/Doc/1034/0100962.pdf). The Scottish Parliament Information Centre (SPICe) produced a useful briefing note: A brief overview of Scottish, UK and international labour market statistics, by Andrew Aiton, 2014.(http://www.parliament.scot/ResearchBriefingsAndFactsheets/S4/SB_14-06.pdf)

The Fraser of Allander Economic Commentary has been published for 40 years, and is an excellent source of analysis and commentary on economic trends.

In particular, Alf Young’s Forty Turbulent Years: How the Fraser Economic Commentary recorded the evolution of the modern Scottish economy is a valuable and readable account of the trends.
